What is a Loving Relationship?

Is it a figment of your imagination; a temporary illusion; a rush of emotion that lasts for a fleeting moment; a brief surge of adolescent infatuation lasting into your early twenties; a lifelong experience that deepens with age; or something totally different.

You might like to look at 1000 Questions for Couples which will allow you to understand your relationship with your other half - your partner or your partner-to-be. It will help to find true love and will help to save loving relationships and stop marriage breakups from occuring.

Love has been defined in any number of ways. And different people mean different things when they think of love. Men may think of love in a totaly different way from women, and people from different cultures may interpret love in different ways from those in other cultures.

What exactly is love and how can you really save your loving relationships.

Physical Attraction:

Some see a loving relationship as sensual with close intimate rapport with another. You may find fascination in the beauty of your partner. The perfect body, full lips, sparkling eyes, rippling muscles and a sense of self confidence that transfixes you. The “handsome prince” and “beautiful princess” idea, or the erotic, physical attractiveness of another are clearly part of this definition..

Affectionate Companionship:

Here, the emphasis is on friendship and companionship. You may have only little passion, and your relationship may be purely “Platonic”. Someone you like very much is always there for you. You strongly prefer or like your reliable, friendly and perfect companion. Yet there is moreto it than this. For you this is your loving relationship.

Flirtatious and Teasing love:

Your love may be extremely playful and adventurous, containing an element of jesting and teasing. It is fun-loving and high spirited, with you often treating each other as playthings or toys. There may be little commitment but you are great friends and really enjoy each other’s frivolity.

Possessive Love:

Regrettably some love may be jealous and possessive. It may even border on the psychotic. There is a manic desire to be with and control the object of love. The lover is always possessive and has a feverish, often frightening sense of ownership. “You are mine and I expect you to do as I demand” kind of attitude. Such obsessive “love” may develop into violence and insecure mood changes. If you are in that kind of relationship, get out fast.

Practical Compatibility:

This love is very pragmatic and realistic. Based on compatibility, you may love someone with an identical background to yourself. Many “arranged marriages” are based on such practical compatibility. The daughter of a lawyer may be introduced by her parents to the son of another professional – another lawyer or doctor for instance. Often the school teacher will marry another teacher; a doctor a nurse or a member of the medical profession. And such marriages are often steady and long lasting.

Agape” or Christian Love:

Many Christians use “agape” to demonstrate God’s love. It is said to be altruistic, selfless, patient and tiful. You only seek the good of your loved one in a totally unselfish manner. I am not sure that such an ideal love really exists among us humans. None of us is totally selfless all the time. You have to work at making love succeed, and that is a two way activity.

Commitment and loyalty:

True love is only demonstrated in action. Your commitment is to one particular person and you stand by that individual at all times. It is not what you “feel” but how you “behave” and “act” towards your partner that counts here. That is why the marriage vows usually include such promises as “for better or worse,” “ for richer or poorer,” “ in sickness and in health,” or some such phrase. Your love grows with commitment, and finding true love is very much linked to commitment and loyalty.

Many kinds of love.

Men tend more towards the physical, erotic and practical kinds of love. Women, by contrast, often link affection and companionship with the more practical, while some slight feelings of jealousy and possessiveness probably reside in each of us. The agony, sense of hopelessness and anger felt by those who lose a partner or lover can destroy happiness until it is dealt with.
